Bill was born October 9, 1946 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Edward Sr. and Hattie McCabe.  Before retirement, he worked 33 years at Phillip Morris Company where he was a maintenance supervisor.  Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army moving supplies through the infamous “Mang Yang Pass” nearly every day of his time in Vietnam.  He was an avid University of Louisville fan and he loved all sports, especially golfing, basketball and shooting pool.  Bill loved the ponies and enjoyed a wager every now and then.  He looked forward to Saturday evening Texas Holdem tournaments and more than anything, spending time with his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Mattingly; and two nieces, Lisa DeWeese and Whitney McCabe.

He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Joyce Mitchum McCabe; four children, Edward McCabe III; Cathy Mattingly; Terry Mattingly; Deborah Mattingly Gross (Garry); (AD) Kim O’Neil; five siblings, Linda Horlander (Gerry); Carolyn Hall; James “Bo” McCabe (Robin); Cheryl DeWeese (Garry); Natalie Frames (Glenn); nine grandchildren, Jessica Mattingly, Katie Tudor, Megan Tudor, Tyler Wilbert, Zach McCabe, Amber Mattingly, Hannah Decker, Jeffrey Gross, Ethan Vowels; five great grandchildren, Grace, Emma, Karter, Julie, Chloe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
