HISTORY
In 1980, Bill Scott Jr. was honored to serve the family of a young child who had passed away. When discussing arrangements, as all funeral arrangements do, the costs of handling services came up at the end. And while the prices were minimum, it might have well been a fortune in the parents' eyes. As many of us know, when raising children, every dollar goes to their needs, and extras aren’t always available.
After the arrangements were made, he promised to take care of the funeral home expenses and vowed to do the same for any family who may need our services for their child. The Angel Fund was born, and since then, we have helped countless families with the unexpected burden of planning services for their loving children.
PROGRAM PURPOSE
The Angel Fund Assistance Program exists to provide limited, reduced-cost services for families who experience the loss of a child. This program is intended to support local families while allowing Scott Funeral Home to maintain appropriate staffing levels and service standards. Some self-imposed limitations allow our staff to continue meaningful support while simultaneously protecting the well-being of our staff and the families we serve.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The Angel Fund applies to children age 17 and under and services are primarily limited to residents of Jeffersonville and Clark County, Indiana. Families residing outside this area should seek assistance from local funeral homes within their own city or county of residence. Out-of-area requests may be reviewed only under exceptional circumstances, subject to staff availability and management approval.
REQUIRED SERVICE FEE
As of December 2025, a minimal $300 service fee is required for all Angel Fund cases. This fee helps offset essential operational costs and limits service requests to those within our intended service area. Services provided with the $300 Fee Include: direct cremation and urn of choice, or, basic burial services without embalming.
Included services are limited to the following: local transfer of the deceased, basic professional services of funeral home staff, filing of required authorizations and permits, coordination with cemetery or crematory only.
The following are not included and will result in additional charges at discounted rates: embalming, visitation, viewing, or funeral ceremonies, graveside or memorial services requiring staff attendance, use of facilities, equipment, or staff beyond basic coordination, all merchandise, including caskets, urns, vaults, or keepsakes.
Requests for additional services or merchandise will require a revised statement of charges and advance approval by the family.
As always, donations are accepted to offset these costs to families, and can be made at our 2515 Veterans Parkway location.
