Obituary of Tommy Jefferson Rhodes Sr.

Tommy “Katt Man” Jefferson Rhodes Sr., of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on July 31, 2019, he was surrounded by family and loved ones.

Homegoing Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway, Jeffersonville, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Tommy was born March 11, 1944 and grew up loving to fish, hunt and play basketball. Tommy attended Charlestown High School where he graduated in 1962. In 1962, he was a key player on the first boys’ basketball team to ever win a sectional championship at Charlestown High.

He worked for the City of Charlestown for over 30 years, where he was promoted to the position of Lead Foreman of the Water Department. He retired in 2001, but was still called by the City of Charlestown and residents to help with water breaks.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Josephine (Jackson) Rhodes; six siblings, George “June” Rhodes, Jr., William “Pris[FR1] ” Rhodes, Everett “Poodie” Rhodes, Josephine Thornton, Margaret Jean Martin, Melvin “Bill” Rhodes; and mother and father-in-law, Minnie and Robert Johnson.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Barbara Rhodes; six children, DeLisa Rhodes-Jones (Lamont), Tommy Rhodes Jr., Glenn Rhodes (Michelle), Candice Payton (Dwayne), LaShawna Rhodes, and Kendrick Rhodes (Abby); three siblings: Mary Frances Jemerson, Susie Rose, and Hazel Harris; eighteen grandchildren, thirteen great grand-children; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
